The Center for Wooden Boats is a not for profit organization for historic wooden boats on Lake Union in Seattle. It was actually closed when we visited, but one of the centers volunteers was there working on a fence and said we we were welcome to have a look around. The center, which has been there for more than 35 years, organises workshops, regattas and other events to educate about the history of wooden boat building and the skills involved.
Todays travel photo was taken on a trip to Goa in 2008. On a boat trip around sunset to spot birds on the River Sal, we passed these locals fishing and I loved how this scene looked in the late afternoon light, with the trees and mountains behind them, so made a quick grab shot from our moving boat. The quality of light in Goa is wonderful, especially early and late in the day. The River Sal is the third longest river in Goa and flows through the south of the state into the Arabian sea at Betul Beach, near Cavelossim. The views from the top of the Victory Column in the middle of Tiergarten in Berlin are quite breathtaking, as is the climb up the spiral staircase to get there! This shot is looking along Strasse des 17 Juni, towards the Brandenburg Gate and was taken shortly before a torrential downpour. On the left is the distinctive Television Tower, which is one of the tallest structures in Europe, at 368 metres high. The old warehouse at West India Quay, on the north side of Canary Wharf in London, is a grade 1 listed building which was once used to store goods imported from the West Indies, such as tea, sugar and rum. It is now home to bars, restaurants and apartments, as well as the 5 star Marriott hotel seen across the water. This photo was taken just after sunset on the first Google Plus London photo walk around Canary Wharf. Today, I give you a splash of colour, after yesterdays black and white long exposure photograph. Multnomah Falls in the Columbia River Gorge is a very popular attraction, a short drive to the east of Portland, Oregon. It is very accessible, being right next to the road and was quite crowded when we visited, so I had wait for my turn to set up the tripod in a suitable spot. I also removed a few people from the bridge in post processing. This stretch of the historic Columbia River Highway is a goldmine for waterfall lovers with several other beautiful falls nearby. Multnomah Falls is the tallest waterfall in the area and in the whole state of Oregon. |
